Core Values

Our core values shape how we show up—for our clients, our partners, and each other. They guide how we build trust, guide change, and design people-centered strategies that increase impact.

Quality & Impact

We take great care with the work we produce as we seek to improve the lives and work of our clients and the communities they work alongside. We aim to get to the root of the problem in ways that are humane and sustainable so that we support people in building mindset, knowledge, and skill.

Fun & Well-Being

We seek out joy individually and collectively. as an act of resistance to oppression, and we realize there are more barriers to doing this for BIPOC and marginalized communities. We choose to nurture our whole selves and to work in ways that support our energy and that of others to both show-up consistently and sustainably inside and outside the workplace.

Integrity & Authenticity

The world can be hard at times, suggesting, permitting, or even encouraging inauthenticity, dishonesty, injustice, selfishness, etc. We seek to stand in unwavering opposition to this by doing what we believe is right; operating with honesty, transparency, and trustworthiness; showing up in all the spaces that we occupy authentically.

Learning and Growth

Our global landscape – the way people interact with one another and, the needs in the workplace, the design of racism and other forms of oppression – is constantly changing. We commit to greet new and familiar experiences with openness and curiosity as well as retain, share and apply learnings.

Collaboration & Relationship Building

Collaboration helps us achieve the best outcomes. Strong relationships facilitate collaboration. To this end, we work together in ways that foster trust, understanding, support, and achievement of shared outcomes. Relationships are as essential as the outcome of the work.

Social Mindfulness

Guided by a belief that outcomes are better when they are shaped by diverse perspectives, we bring self-awareness and reflection on how our unique identities and the unique identities of others have shaped the way we experience and impact others in our environment. We also embrace differing perspectives, orientations, abilities, ways of thinking, and doing things.

Community Impact

Because when values-driven organizations thrive, the ripple effects are powerful.

At Building for Mission, we believe that strong organizations lead to stronger communities. That’s why we reinvest our expertise and proceeds into work that extends beyond our client engagements.

Through pro-bono partnerships, donations to mission-aligned organizations, and support for community-led clients, we’re helping to build capacity where it’s needed most.

Here are a few examples of how we’ve supported the community and community-focused organizations—ensuring they have access to the strategic support, coaching, and infrastructure needed to sustain long-term impact.

  • Reinvesting proceeds from BFM gear to offer pro-bono or reduced-cost services for under-resourced organizations.
  • Providing donations to former clients, with a focus on locally based, community-rooted organizations in the D.C. area.
  • Serving clients led by BIPOC and first-generation leaders, who represent 20–25% of our annual client portfolio.
  • Offering free and low-cost speaking engagements to extend learning and support, including with institutions like Johns Hopkins and NAWBO.
  • Partnering with faith-based organizations to provide accessible facilitation on community engagement and impact strategy.
