Elizabeth Vanasdale, Operations Manager

As the Operations Manager at Building For Mission, Liz brings her nonprofit management experience and a people-centered approach to improving systems and processes to drive impact. She brings more than 10 years of experience working in the fields of social justice and public service leadership.

Liz began her career as a Tenants’ Rights Paralegal in Baltimore, MD advocating for affordable, habitable, and non-discriminatory housing. Her next role was working as an Executive Assistant for a statewide civil legal services organization based in Albany, NY helping to manage organizational operations for multiple legal practice areas. This role sparked her interest in nonprofit operations and project management to increase impact for social change. She began pursuing her Masters’ degree in Public Administration while working as a Public Benefits Paralegal helping clients navigate public assistance requirements and regulations. After several years of working in the nonprofit sector, Liz was intrigued to gain the perspective of state agency operations while working in state government at the New York State Department of Labor, Division of Budget – Human Services, and the Executive Chamber.

Most recently, Liz served as the Director of Operations and Interim Executive Director for a statewide association for community dispute resolution in New York State. In this role, she was responsible for managing finances, compliance, human resources, mediation programs, and stakeholder engagement. In this role, she learned the importance and impact that effective dialogue can have in building connection. Liz holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from SUNY Albany, a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Le Moyne College, and has taken courses at the University of Cape Town. She is trained in mediation, conflict coaching, and restorative practices.

Liz loves exploring new places and ideas, hiking, gardening, challenging herself on runs and house projects. She lives in Hurley, NY with her partner Tristan, their dog Stella, and their cats Teddy, Lily, Sasha, and Natasha.
